Kochi-Benguet
Sisterhood : A greater challenge in the 2000
Millennium year.

Governor Hashimoto once
said, Kochi Prefecture is planning and transforming
to meet the needs and “CHALLENGES” of a new era.
And, Governor Molintas of Benguet is quoted saying
“A time for CHANGE”. These two leaders share a
mutual commitment to their beloved Prefecture and
Province respectively.
It was indeed an honor to become one of the
technical trainees accepted to this program, but I
was concerned at the sort of questions I began to
ask myself. Can I be a part of that change? Can I
do what they expect of me? That was a great
challenge that I had to confront.
Taking part in the programユs goals, during
the previous year, was a remarkable achievement and
helped form a strong partnership. To be specific,
past technical trainees from Benguet were actively
dessiminating the technologies they had acquired
here in Kochi, Japan. For myself, it will be a
tough job since my technical training was about
Rice Production by introducing japonica rice into
Benguet. Imparting the technology Iユve learned for
my province will be a long process and it needs
assistance both technically and financially.
In the general view of my technical training,
I would like to share in my province the great
experiences and observations from the 10 months
Iユve stayed here in Kochi. First and foremost, the
clean and green environment and the disciplin of
the people. In spite of the technological advances,
Kochi prefecture has maintained and sustained an
environmental biodiversity which is impossible in
highly developed areas. Culturally, its historic
and cultural assets were well preserved and
sustained.
In behalf of Benguet Province, it is a great
honor and privilege to thank the Kochi Prefectural
Government through Governor Daijiro Hashimoto for
accepting us, the Kochi International Association
and the Kochi-Benguet Sisterhood group for their
warm accommodation and assistance.
